Jumping Jellyfish

I mean to say 'jumping kombucha!' I am still new to this probiotic berverage and new to the habits of this mushroom. It indeed seems to have a life of it's own! It was trying to get out of the jar! I found it leaping - ok - well not exactly - it was stuck to the cover cloth as if it were trying to climb out. I suppose I filled the jar too high, and it was just too tempting for it to sneak out and escape....Oh the memories come 'flooding back' of pets we had as children, and their escapes: the girbles leaping out of their aquariums - that is indeed a funny site - they look like mini-kangaroos when they jump.
If you are visiting from the Original Kombucha group - I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Hi, Patty-Jean. I posted about something similar today on the OK list, when I filled my jar too high... Think the same thing is happening to you!

  2. Thanks KomBuChaCha! Yup thats what it sounds like - I filled it too high! Funny, normally I fill it about half to 3/4 - and I don't remember scoobie protruding as she is!?

  3. OK, that is just too funny! I have always wanted to try making my own, but have been way too scared. Now that I see how much fun it can be, I think that I might have t give it a try :)

  6. LOL - Tami Jo! yes it can look pretty offensive - the first time a friend offered me a taste - i was REALLY hesitant - like i was going to intake some kind of slimy thing - and even when she did give me the mushroom...i took me over a week or two to build up the courage to make some!

I found out that it was also the shape of the jar -each batch, scoobie grows - and i didn't leave room for it to grow anywhere but out!
