AAAAhhhhh.....as the sun warms my tall kitchen window, i'm getting a little itchy to be green, eco living, growing all my own food, hands black with earth, the smell of soil in my nostrils, the satisfaction of eating pure, eating rich green.....alas i live in an apt. on the edge of downtown. All is not loss, as the sun has grown warmer, so my fresh Basil is brilliant, voluptuous, and fragrant. And well, my sprouting habits are an ongoing science experiment. I have a plastic sprouter (very common) - hard to clean! and then there is the borrowed from my "rawfoodist-vegan mom", the mega sprouter(electric), with an automatic fountain - i do not recommend it, unless you are ok with sticking to alfalfa or broccoli sprouts, but then again it is a bigger nightmare to clean! So now my kitchen lab has a few experiments in progress using various make shift sprout containers.
My next project will be my plot in the local community garden. I've graduated from an unplowed empty city lot, to a boxed, raised bed in Spirit Park. It is a nice, clean community garden....in the middle is a cement half sphere tile mosaic, rising out of the ground, that the kids in the neighborhood participated in building (Art City kids - a free Art studio in the community).
