We awoke this morning to a return of winter - hopefully a brief return - although we have been quite spoiled here in the prairies, where winter is Harsh normally and very often not over until mid April...gardens don't go in until the long weekend in May usually.
So THESE lovely daffodils were not grown locally, a gift for having the honor of adjudicating a Modern Dance exam yesterday.
We recently said goodbye to an old 3rd or 4th hand dining table that was sadly beyond repair. We love having guests for meals and the average dining table really does not have the room for 2 families - So we a were the happy recipients of a 'banquet table' (not my favorite - but it will do), and a couple of church pews for seating. I was very happy that my lovely husband scraped off the gum last night - as it was getting to be quite the temptation for the young ones. The space where the hymnals usually occupy now are the happy home of blocks and other treasures!
Excuse my sewing and handwork ignorance, but would some kind soul please share with me WHAT this IS? AND how is it used? My mother had it in her sewing drawer for all my years and it has been passed on to my sewing drawer - BUT I have no idea what it is or WHAT it is used for! Any and all input would be WELL RECEIVED!
Thank-you in advance - Good Morning and Good Day!
I have always wanted a church pew bench- Love the idea of the energy in the wood. Lovely blog and nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteI think it is for darning socks. You stick it in the toe or heal of the sock to keep the shape. However I could be very wrong!
ReplyDeleteMy mom has one too. If you screw off the top you might find some old needles in the handle.
Thanks Nan! YOu are the 2nd person today to inform me that it is for darning socks - now I see it - I'm excited to see if there are indeed treasures of old needles inside! THe top is stuck on good - so either it is glued in place and no such treasure - or i'll have to get hubby to take a look! thanks
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is but it would make a good model for making mushrooms *giggle*
ReplyDeleteoh, i love your church benches how nice!
ReplyDeletethe blocks look so sweet sitting there : )
i also think it makes for a lovely mushroom!
it doesn't remind me of sewing at all. It reminds me of my parent's piano where it would be a spare handle for carrying the piano. You could paint it to look like a mushroom from the smurfs though. Kamla
ReplyDeleteduckyhouse, you crack me up. love the bench idea. being a former church myself I have wanted to locate some good dining room pews. where did you find yours?
ReplyDeleteYes, that mushroom like wooden thing is for fixing socks. I love doing it... If you would like I can show you how sometime. It is a lot of fun!
