rediscovering beatrice potter
i guess apart of us always remains little....in my case it is the fairy tale-princess-tea party-part, that i Never stop loving! recently i started reading some beatrice potter to my almost 3yr dd - she adored it as much as i......i love the writing ....
from the "tale of Tom Kitten", ...."somehow there were very extraordinary noises over-head, which disturded the dignity and repose of the tea party."
you won't read that kind of language everyday in a children's book....but why not...it does take me back to a vacation in a Jane Austin book, like Pride and Prejudice....sigh, i think i'm about due to read one of her books this holiday sometime!

What a beautiful blog you have, Patty-Jean! I hope you have time to write more often...I'm enjoying what you have here!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I love Beatrice Potter as well and have read them to my children. It really is the language that I adore. You are right you never find children's books that sound so beautiful. I honestly feel smart when I read them probably because of the fake English accent that I don while reading! :)
ReplyDeletethats exactly my fascination with it, the vocabulary...somehow i'm transported into a Jane Austin novel-becoming one of the characters...lol..perhaps i like it more than the littles.
