A Season of Learning, Turning, and Swirling

I'm back.

I've been here, just quiet.

Officially we are all set into our fall schedule/groove. And it is our official first year of homeschooling. I'm so grateful for some of the mature women in my life who've raised gems amazingly and their words of encouragement and relief when I've gone and confided in them my needless concerns.

A goal: Create an environment that nurtures in my children a hunger for learning. And that the heart of learning would be what is TRULY important, more than academics, more than perfectionism, more than worldly accomplishment.

A pleasure in my life these days is the 2 days of dance I get to teach AND enjoy taking class too!  Hello long lost muscles, how are you? I've missed you, and am truly enjoying the little torture I put you through in Ballet, and recall the pleasure of learning to release you in Modern.

So with that I shall leave you with our favorite Creative Movement activity this season:

Lying on the floor each draped in some fabric scarves (preferably the Granny ones you find in thrift shops; they are the most fluid moving), we are Geese. Rising to the music of the drum, resonator bars and the melody of "Wild Geese":

Wild Geese are flying high in the sky
Wild geese are singing an autumn lullaby
Winter is coming
Winter is near
Wild geese are flying high in the sky....

....and we fly throughout the room with our scarves, swirling them high and low, gliding throughout the space in no particular pattern, throwing them high in the air and catching them with our knees, elbows, heels and head.

Happy flying!

What is truly important to you, to communicate to your flock?

  1. Lovely- I remember taking classes such as these-
I would add that it is important to communicate to ones flock the moments of stillness- the ying and the yang-

    Have a lovely day.

My answer to this one would be just that our lives are not our own to live. We belong to God and His plan is the best plan.

  3. Oh so, so many things! But on the forefront for me right now, is the important of service...giving of our gifts to others, however this may look. We're planning a fundraiser to benefit our local SPCA, and what a lot of fun it's becoming!

  5. Mmm, good question! For me, I think it is faith. Faith verses fear. So I try to say things like, 'It's okay, don't worry, we are being looked after.' & of course I always get it back whev I'm the one worrying... out of the mouths... Thanks Patty-Jean, that was fun. Katie x
